At GVP, electives play a crucial role in shaping not just the education, but the overall development of each student. Offering classes like running, visual art with PaintLove, musical instruments, ensemble (GVP chorus), and Peace Leaders for Form 3, these electives open doors to new worlds and give our students the freedom to choose what excites them most.
For many of our students, the chance to explore a variety of subjects is empowering. It’s more than just learning a new skill—it’s about discovering what they’re passionate about and building confidence in their choices. Girls are encouraged to select electives carefully because they will be in that class for an entire semester. When girls select the electives that resonate with them, they gain a sense of agency, a powerful reminder that their voices and preferences matter.
These elective experiences are foundational for their growth, providing opportunities to express themselves, learn about their strength and endurance,, or even imagine their futures in new ways. Whether it’s through the creativity of visual arts or the teamwork and leadership skills developed in Peace Leaders, each class helps build a sense of confidence, community, and self-determination. Electives also provide an important space for students from different forms to mix. Friendships are formed across form levels, connecting girls who might not otherwise interact and building meaningful bonds that last beyond the classroom.
Ultimately, giving our students the opportunity to choose allows them to grow not just academically, but personally—helping them find their strengths and believe in their ability to shape their own futures.
