Global Village Project is thrilled to welcome Ms. Akua Taylor as our new Music Teaching Artist in Residence! With a passion for making art as a positive force, Ms. Akua has long been dedicated to creating music with purpose, meaning, and inspiration. Her journey as a musician and teacher began early; she realized while still young that working with youth was her calling. Teaching became her way to bring purposeful messages into music, empowering students and helping them grow.

An accomplished artist and teacher, Ms. Akua is a Fisk University graduate who has actively performed and shared her talents in music programs across schools, camps, and after-school settings. Drawn to GVP’s mission, Ms. Akua sees a strong alignment with her own values, especially around the empowerment of young women—a message that has been central in her work.

As she takes on the role of guiding our music program, Ms. Akua is excited to explore and celebrate the students’ cultures through music. Her plans include introducing widely known, easy-to-learn songs that also support English language learning, while continuing GVP’s tradition of creating new songs tied to classroom learning themes and working from “Imagine A Circle, The Global Village Songbook.” She will also incorporate Georgia’s Standards of Excellence for 6th-grade chorus, ensuring that every lesson meets both artistic and academic goals.

Above all, Ms. Akua wants to help our students find their voices through music, fostering a space where they can express themselves freely and confidently. We are thrilled to have her in our village and can’t wait to see how she inspires our students!
