Tribute to Education 2020: Cancellation FAQs
Updated March 18, 2020
At Global Village Project, our highest priority is not only the health and wellbeing of our students and their families, but also our extended community. To prevent the spread of the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic across our community, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel Tribute to Education, our April 19, 2020 event.
We believe at this time that cancelling this annual fundraiser is the best way to protect the wellbeing of our community members and their loved ones from COVID-19. At the same time, Tribute to Education contributes vitally to Global Village Project’s ability to provide necessary services to our students and families; last year alone, we raised over $240,000 at Tribute to Education to support the education of refugee young women in Atlanta. This represented 20% of our total fundraising for the year. Therefore, we are asking that even in the absence of an in-person event, you keep the refugee young women at Global Village Project in mind during these difficult circumstances.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
If Tribute to Education will not be held this spring, how can I still make a contribution to GVP?
We are deeply grateful for the continued generosity and dedication of our community. To whatever extent you are able, please consider making a financial contribution to GVP on our website or joining us as an ongoing partner by signing up as a Sustaining Member (set up a recurring gift online or through your bank). We are committed to the continued provision of holistic and innovative educational services to the students at GVP, as well as extra support to help them and their families through this challenging time. We are so thankful for loyal supporters like you who will continue to ensure that we have the funds to make that happen.
Will an event be held in place of Tribute at a later time?
While no decision has been made at this time, we are investigating the possibility of postponing Tribute to Education until later this year, pending the resolution of public health concerns. We appreciate your ongoing engagement and hope you will stay tuned to our communications regarding the event and other updates in the coming months. You can sign up for our newsletter here and follow us on Facebook and Instagram to make sure you are in-the-know about future events benefiting GVP.
What if I already bought a ticket for the event or a raffle ticket?
Thank you for your participation in the event and your support of Global Village Project. You have the option of converting your payment to a 100% tax deductible donation to GVP or receiving a full refund. Please contact Kate Mull at firstname.lastname@example.org to ask for a refund or a conversion.
How will the financial impact of this cancelled event affect the students that GVP serves?
Each year, approximately 20% of funds raised for Global Village Project are donated during Tribute to Education in the form of sponsorships and table purchases, tickets, auction and raffle bids, and paddle raises. In the absence of an event next month, it will be extremely challenging for our dedicated team to meet GVP’s revenue goals for the year. Every donation given online or by mail in the absence of the event will be of vital help in reducing shortfall for this fiscal year, which ends on July 31st, so that our ability to sustain our impact on the lives of our students remains secure.
That said, GVP’s leadership is committed to continuing our holistic support of our students and their families, who are representative of the communities most vulnerable during this crisis. We have taken critical steps to ensure that our students have the necessary resources and support for remote learning, and our faculty are committed to being available and accessible to students during this period. In addition, our staff is working hard to provide extra support to our students and families to help them through these difficult circumstances, including providing food and connecting them with additional resources and information.
