Opportunities for Groups
We welcome groups
of friends and colleagues
from partners, local businesses, membership associations, faith-based organizations, and more. Bringing a group to volunteer at GVP in one of the below opportunities is a great way to spend time with the students and be an ambassador for GVP, introducing your network to the important work that we do.
Please fill out a group volunteer interest form and we will follow up to discuss the best opportunities for your group. Indicate the size of your group and your preference for the opportunities/dates listed below. Please allow 5 business days for a response - thank you for your patience.
Provide Lunch for GVP Girls
When our lunch partner, Agnes Scott College, closes for holidays, GVP students eat lunch on our campus in downtown Decatur. We need assistance providing lunch for students on these days. This is a fun opportunity for individuals or groups to provide food (we can give you suggestions on what to bring) and spend the lunch hour with students! You can choose a single day or multiple days. The months we usually need lunch food support are August, December, January, March, and May.
Host an Authors' Tea
Bi-semester Authors' Teas allow students to share what they're learning with the community through their songs and stories. Provide refreshments, assist our Authors' Tea team with set-up/break down, and help make our guests feel welcome. Authors’ Teas are on Friday afternoons, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. Read more about Authors' Teas.
Host Parent/Teacher Conferences
Each semester, we hold Parent/Teacher Conferences at GVP. This is a time when family members who are rarely able to visit school can get to know teachers and staff and discuss their daughters' education. As a host committee, you bring snacks, plan simple activities for younger siblings, help to welcome parents and other family members and assist with completing paperwork. We usually hold conferences on a Saturday morning in the months of October and March.
Participate in Afternoon Study Hall
This opportunity is ideal for volunteer/service groups that are available to serve weekly. A group of 3-10 volunteers can serve as tutors. Tutors will help students complete their homework and improve their reading, math and writing skills. They will also assist GVP support team members and supervisors in creating and implementing educational and enrichment activities. This position offers the opportunity to build relationships with refugee young women, mentor them academically, and help with their personal successes and challenges. Opportunity availability: August-May on Monday-Friday from 3:30-4:20 PM. Tutors must commit to at least a full 50-minute session one day each week.
Fundraise or Hold a Donation Drive
You don't have to take part in a scheduled event or activity to support us. It's easy to organize your own activity with friends or with your community group. Be creative! We'll support you with materials and access to our team fundraising platform.
Groups can also host an event or a party at their office, home, school, etc. and collect needed items (new items only) such as:
- School supplies (50 new book bags, pencils, erasers, etc.)
- Health and hygiene products/kits (sanitary napkins)
- Winter essentials (hats, gloves, scarfs, etc.)
Note: Before organizing a donation drive, please contact our Community Engagement Manager to determine current and upcoming needs.
