Volunteer Intake Process


Step 1: Submit our Online Volunteer Application

Due to high volume, it may take 7-10 business days to receive a response. Please be patient with us!

This form helps us understand your availability, skills, and interest before you attend New Volunteer Orientation. By capturing your contact information now, we can cut down on paperwork later. Read more about our current volunteer opportunities (and the time commitment involved).

Volunteer Criteria:

  • Must be at least 18 years old (with exception to high school age interns, tutors, and members of group volunteers)
  • Have a Social Security Number (SSN), Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN), Visa Control Number and/or Driver's License Number
  • Present a form of ID (Driver’s License, State ID, Passport)
  • Pass a background check
  • Mentors must be at least 21 years old and must undergo more in-depth background checks in addition to those required for other Volunteers.

Step 2: Attend New Volunteer Orientation.

You must RSVP to attend. Please do not show up without confirmation. New Volunteer Orientation is one of our 3 mandatory volunteer trainings, ensuring that our school is a safe and supportive space for everyone involved. Learn about our required volunteer trainings.

Step 3: Submit Volunteer Paperwork

Required paperwork includes a background check, volunteer release and liability waiver, a confidentiality agreement, and agreement with policies outlined in GVP's volunteer handbook. Required documents will be handed out during New Volunteer Orientation.

Before receiving your placement and arriving for your first day of volunteering, all volunteers must submit these required documents. We run confidential background checks through our partners at the Agnes Scott College police department.
