So many of you have reached out to us in recent days with concerns about the future of GVP and our students. We appreciate your thoughts. The new administration brings some changes to our work and in this letter, we want to keep our community informed. Some of our community members have rightfully asked why and how we plan to expand at a time like this.
The mission of Global Village Project was founded to sustain. We are balancing short-term uncertainties with long-term planning to serve refugee girls for decades to come.
Over the past 16 years, we have experienced various shifts in refugee resettlement policies across different administrations. Through it all, our mission—to reactivate the schooling of refugee girls by providing them with a safe, nurturing, and holistic education—has remained relevant and important. Because of you, our mission has been sustained.
New policies may delay or halt the arrival of newly resettled refugees, but our Board of Directors have planned for these changes to ensure that our program can expand and contract with changing resettlement trends, while remaining deeply impactful to the students we receive. We have the capacity to expand our existing school district and adjust the criteria for admission.
We are still learning of new developments as they evolve, but here is what we are focusing on:
-
- We are planning strategically for the long term beyond the next four years.
-
- We continue to partner with local refugee serving agencies, both governmental and nongovernmental, to support our refugee community.
-
- There exists significant needs for our mission among the refugees that have already arrived in our state and in nearby communities and we are exploring how best to serve those communities.
-
- The students we serve are all in the country legally and as of now, none of them are affected by emerging policy changes. We are continuing to connect families with resources they need.
Your support helps build something far bigger than a new school; it lays the foundation for generations of girls to come. Through your support, you are helping create a space for refugee girls to access education tailored to their unique needs. We appreciate that support.
Thank you for your commitment to the continuity of our mission.
With hope and gratitude,
