A Singular Education

Global Village Project is the only school in the country dedicated to educating refugee girls who have had their education interrupted.

It Only Takes One

Each and every girl we educate has the potential to not only change her life and that of her family’s, but also her community and even the world. Your gift helps us prepare our students to be undaunted, and allows us to pioneer an innovative model of refugee education to share with educators globally. DONATE NOW >

Arts are integral to teaching and learning at GVP providing students with ongoing experiences that give them tools to express themselves and learn that creative pursuits are a part of innovative thinking. Music, performing, and visual arts act as a means for students to display their strengths, knowledge and identities. Now, with a recent grant from a generous partner, GVP will substantially enhance its STEAM offering over the next two years.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) is an interdisciplinary and integrated approach to 21st century teaching and learning that emphasizes creativity, communication, and collaboration.

Students served by Global Village Project since 2009

When a student arrives at GVP:

  • she is 13 years old (on average)
  • she speaks 2–3 languages
  • she comes from 1 of 12 African or Asian countries
  • she has missed an average of 3 years of school (and up to 6)
  • she has been in the US for less than 3 years

We're back for our 10th School Year!

After an active summer of learning, we're excited to celebrate new and old friends.

Global Village Project was back in session on August 6th, with 46 students enrolled - our biggest class yet! We're always excited about the start of a new school year and the learning and community building headed our way, but this year we're especially joyful to be celebrating Global Village Project's 10th Anniversary! We're looking forward to sharing the stories that have helped make GVP possible over the last decade, from our founders to our partners to our alumnae ambassadors. GVP wouldn't be what it is without these voices, spreading the word about our special school, and we are honored to have this chance to celebrate the achievements of our first ten years as a school.

In celebration of the YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta’s 160th year in Metro Atlanta, the Decatur Family YMCA’s staff, board members, and volunteers hosted a Back to School event and school supply drive for GVP students and alumnae this past Saturday. The event was a part of the YMCA branches’ volunteer projects all over Metro Atlanta. This event was also a Welcoming Week kick-off for YMCA community members to join Welcoming America and other welcoming communities by bringing together immigrants, refugees, and native-Born residents, to raise awareness of the welcoming everyone.

The girls enjoyed a day of healthy and fun activities. The girls also received YMCA draw string bags with goodies and GVP received a generous donation of school supplies and hygiene products. Thanks to the Decatur Family YMCA for this day of service and the donation. #YMCAdaysofservice #YMCA #DecaturY #GVPpartners #GlobalVillageProject

"The arts expanded my world view. Singing has taken me from my little neighborhood church and community to stages across the world with people from every walk of life. It reinforced the idea that we are more alike than different. Now, as a music teacher and Arts Coordinator, I get to share that journey with students everyday!" ~ Ms. Kimberli Render, Arts Coordinator and Music Teacher at GVP #BecauseOfArtsEd

Ms. Kimberli coordinates arts programs and supports arts partnerships at GVP. In this video, Ms. Kimberli is conducting students during a Authors’ Tea performance last school year. #TBT #ArtsEdWeek #ArtsEdGA #ArtsIntegration

Join us at GVP next Friday, September 21st at 2PM for our Welcome themed Authors’ Tea. Don't miss our first Tea of the school-year with amazing performances, tea, and quality time with our students and the GVP community. We hope to see you there! #AuthorsTea

#BecauseOfArtsEd, we build self-confidence, self-expression, and empowerment in young women.

In October 2015, we partnered with @globalvillageproject to provide an ongoing in-school residency for refugee girls. GVP is the only school in the United States designed to meet the unique needs of refugee girls and young women with interrupted education. Its mission is to develop a strong educational foundation using intensive instruction in English language and literacy, academic subjects, and the arts. We work with the students to develop self-confidence, public speaking, empowerment, self-expression, and a strong sense of ensemble through live theatre.
